Airmic 2018, held in Liverpool in June, was an amazing 3 day experience, with over 1,800 delegates and 74 exhibitors taking part in the annual event organised by the risk management and insurance association, Airmic.
The highly informative conference proved to be the perfect platform for industry professionals to share ideas and information. This year the event’s theme was ‘The Future is Now!’ and the FM Global Innovation Zone created an electrifying ‘buzz’. The latest gadgets and technology being used by FM Global to build organisations’ resilience around the globe, gave attendees a real hands-on experience. From interactive flood mapping software, remote viewing demonstrations, to a Virtual Drone Simulator, the Innovation Zone drew-in the crowds.
As well as numerous technology demonstrations, it was also the forward-thinking ideas of some of the industry’s key thought leaders, shared through intimate workshops and keynote sessions, that highlighted 2018’s future-facing theme. To kick-off this year’s Airmic Conference, Adriano Lanzilotto, Vice President, Client Service Manager, London Operations, hosted FM Global’s Partner Brunch on the Monday morning. Adriano took the audience on a trip through time, from the expansion of Ancient Rome all the way to the modern era, with notable stops in London, 1666, and Russia in 1812. Utilising his clear interest in history, Adriano successfully illustrated to the assembled delegates how the availability of data has changed over time, and how important this data can be when businesses are looking to protect property across the globe.
As part of the new Airmic Hub, an area dedicated to learning and thought leadership, at this year’s conference, Owen Lewis, Group Manager, Account Engineering, London Operations, hosted the first ever Airmic Hub Session on the Monday afternoon. Following the theme of the Airmic conference, ‘The Future is Now!’, Owen focused primarily on the predictive analytics tools FM Global already has in place, and how these tools can help risk managers and the C-Suite to mitigate risk.
The digital landscape was the focus of debate on the Tuesday afternoon, and how big data is helping businesses become more resilient against the challenges that they face in this rapidly changing environment. Chris Johnson, Executive Vice President, FM Global, took part in this debate, alongside other leading figures from the insurance and risk management community, highlighting the fact that companies have effectively two choices; “Be a disrupter, or be disrupted”. Clearly, resilience is a choice and one that FM Global can help businesses to make through the use of modern technology coupled with predictive analytics.
The Airmic conference is always a great opportunity to meet industry colleagues, as well as clients and prospects, and the social side of things never fails to disappoint. For a flavour of the conference view the Airmic album here:
